Samba – the national dance of Brazil and one of the most popular Latin dances. Samba or Samba music includes a broad spectrum of different forms of music and dance (samba, samba-reggae, maracatu, Samba de gafieira, pagode, etc.). In Brazil itself, samba primarily associated with the music of carnival in Rio de Janeiro.
History samba

No one can say exactly how appeared the word “samba”. Some say that it comes from semba – Congolese names of traditional African dance, imported black slaves. And perhaps, the roots must be sought in religious terms san-ba – “with the intention of praying ‘taking place from Umbanda (religion, consisting of a mixture of Catholicism, Spiritism and the Afro-Brazilian traditions), as many artists and authors of the samba were her followers.
The history of samba – is the story of the merger of African dances, who came to Brazil with the slaves from the Congo and Angola, with the Spanish and Portuguese dances, brought from the European conquerors of South America. In the 16 century, the Portuguese brought with them from Angola and the Congo to Brazil, many slaves who were brought from Africa, such dances as Catarete, Embolada and Batuque. These dances were considered in Europe, it is sinful, because in the process of dance dancers were the umbilicus (belly button is, not the stomach – the Inquisition was then very strict and intellectual development).
Embolada – dance, depicting a cow with balls on their horns for safety, the word “embolada” in Brazil today – a synonym for “stupid”. The dance was later combined with the Maxixe. This Brazilian circular dance described as Two Step. Maxixe was known in the U.S. in the early twentieth century.
Maxixe became popular in Europe after the show in Paris in 1905. He danced like polka steps, performed the music habanera (Cuban Habanera). Now the samba is the movement maxixe, a chassis and point is (chasse and point).
Option samba called Carioca (from Rio de Janeiro) became known in the UK in 1934. It was performed by Fred Astaire in the film “Flying Down to Rio” (“Flying Down to Rio”). In the U.S., Carioca appeared in 1938, its popularity peaked in 1941, after the performance of Carmen Miranda (Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha) in feature films, especially in the movie “That night in Rio de Janeiro” (“That Night in Rio” ).
Increased attention to the samba in Europe came the 1950′s, when she became interested in the Princess Margaret, who played a leading role in British society. Samba has been standardized for international enforcement Pierre Lavelle in 1956.

Dance Samba
