Nothing really, and yes.
Both dances have 6-count basics, Jive however does have much more energetic footwork when compared to East Coast Swing.
What music you dance to is really dependent on the ballroom you dance at. Personally, I prefer music from the actual swing era (1930s and 1940s), but with ballroom you could dance to anything from Rock n’ Roll to modern pop music.
This is a substantial difference, however, between Ballroom Swing Dances (East Coast Swing and Jive) and Folk Swing Dances (Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston, Collegiate Shag, etc.) that were actually danced during the swing era (specifically, these dances were/are danced much more informally, with less emphasis on posture and technique, and more emphasis on individual expression).
